CLOIGHI
is a dramatic story of love, redemption, and revenge. Set in Celtic Brittania during the Roman invasion, it spans the millenia from the years of the violent response of the Brittish Silure Tribe to the invasion, right up to the present day.
Unbeknown to the daily life of people during the two thousand years that have elapsed, the atmosphere around the same area that the Silures occupied still resonates with the emotional termoils of the time.
When a communication channel with the past bafflingly dissplays itself, it presents an open wound that never had the chance to heal, and which has been weeping a sceptic bitterness for nearly two thousand years --- just waiting for the opportunity to avenge, repair, and heal.
THE STORY LINE
The date was 73 A.D. in the month of Elembious. The war against the invaders had been going well. The Romans were no closer to controlling the iron industry in the Forest of Valleys than when they had landed with force and confident military arrogance 30 years before. Over the past months however, there had been a constant flow of intel that Rome had lost patience with their continued failures. . There were dark rumours circulating around the Druid families of the Forest of Valleys that decisive Roman retaliation was on its way. The Silures were trying to motivate the other tribes to be ready for a military response.
It was a good day. Deardaoin. The summer days had been kind with sunshine, and even on a slightly dull morning such as this, the ground, and even the air itself, was warm after many weeks of sunshine.
Cadr, tall, in fact very tall when most of his peers were around five foot three to five foot five, was utterly besotted with the girl that he used to play with when they were children. They had been friends from the start, and she had saved him from many scrapes over their growing years.
He was a gentle giant, about six foot four inches, muscular and thick set, with a neck that was not a normal neck, but simply a solid, wide connection between shoulder blades and head. Since reaching late teenage, and now having the benefit of years of daily warrior training, he had realised that he could be quite effective at getting out of scrapes in his own right.
Aife was also tall, six foot two inches, with female curves and poise that fooled men into thinking that she was a gentle sex goddess. Her aggressive nature and quick temper made fools of all of them.
Their mutual large size would probably have brought them together anyway, but from when they were little until now — well, they just got on.
Cadr was not only a trainee blacksmith. He was being groomed for his true future by the family. His Father was an Ironmaster, and a member of the warrior class of Druids, as was Aife's Father. A status that they inherited from their Fathers before them and so from their Fathers, and repeated back in the generations so far that they got lost in legends. The Roman invaders had a policy early on in their military plan, that it was far too dangerous to have an educated intellectual warrior class immersed in the British tribes, and so persecuted them mercilessly.
Cadr and Aife’s families were members of the Silure Tribe. A tribe of historic warrior background, and unlike many of the British tribes who bartered and negotiated with the early Roman invaders, the Silures physically fought them at every opportunity.
